Australia – a place where your quality of education is guaranteed

In 2000, Australia introduced the Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) Act 2000. ESOS ensures that, in order to enrol international students, institutions must first meet requirements for registration. All institutions that meet registration requirements are listed on the publicly available Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS).

Types of Institutions and Education :

41 Universities

110 + Tafe Institutions

550 + Private Colleges

The Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) is a quality assured national framework of qualifications in the school, vocational education and training (VET), and higher education sectors in Australia.

Secondary education : Australia is a popular secondary school destination due to the quality and international recognition of the education offered, and the safe, caring and multicultural environment. An Australian secondary school education will provide you with skills for your future study, employment and life, inAustraliaor anywhere in the world.

English language courses : Australia is proud of the reputation and quality of its English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS) courses. The National English Language Teaching Accreditation Scheme (NEAS) works to maintain the high standard of Australia’s ELICOS courses. These courses are designed to help students succeed in university studies by improving their English and academic study skills.

Intakes : The main intake for all Australian Institutions is February . Every university opens admissions for all courses that they offer, for the February intake. There is also a Mid-year intake offered by some Australian Universities during July . It is important to keep in mind that, a university offering an intake in February might not necessarily offer all the courses that they have on list, during the mid year intake. Whether or not a University will offer a July intake can be found out on the university website , university brochures or from our career counselors.

Some universities also follow November – summer intake. It is available only for limited number of universities and limited courses. Generally universities follow semester system and for some programs, they have trimester system.

Vocational Education and Training (VET) : Thousands of courses are offered through the VET sector in Australia. Qualifications gained through the VET sector can lead to a career in a variety of diverse and exciting industries.

Courses and qualifications : Australian vocational education and training courses provide students with skills that employers have identified as important in the workplace.

The types of qualifications that can be obtained through the VET system include:

Certificate I–IV : these courses are designed to provide introductory skills and training. They provide industry-specific knowledge and skills in communication, participation, literacy and numeracy, and teamwork. They vary in length from a few weeks to six or more months.

Diploma : a diploma course prepares students for industry, enterprise and para-professional careers. Diploma courses can be completed at TAFE institutes and private colleges. Diplomas require 18 to 24 months of full-time study.

Advanced Diploma : An advanced diploma provides a high level of practical skills for employment in a specific career area, such as accounting, building design, and engineering. Some advanced diploma courses can also be completed at university level. Advanced diplomas vary in length from 24 to 36 months.

Average tuition costs :

$5500–$18000 per year

Please note that course fees can vary widely depending on the course, institute and location chosen and should always be sourced from the relevant provider(s).

Pathways to university : TAFE provides both international and domestic students with a number of education pathways to university (higher education). In addition to providing assistance with entrance requirements, TAFE courses can also be counted for credit towards some Australian university courses. For example, students who graduate with a diploma from a TAFE college may receive up to two or three semesters of credit towards a related university degree.

Pathways to the workforce : A TAFE qualification can also improve your prospects in the job market. Due to the practical emphasis of most courses in this sector, a TAFE qualification can be a valuable addition to the resume.

Foundation courses : a pathway into university

Foundation courses help international students who may not initially meet entry requirements gain entry to undergraduate study at Australian universities and colleges. They also help students adapt to the Australian academic environment and life in Australia. Some foundation courses promise a place at university after successful completion of the course. Foundation courses are typically intensive one-year preparatory courses, but this time frame can sometimes be altered according to the student’s needs.
